Rein helped with growing and managing the company due to the company's growth, Sweeney did not end up getting his degree, short by one credit. For continued development, Sweeney sought out a business partner for Epic MegaGames, eventually coming to Mark Rein, who had just been let go from id Software. He formed a team of four people to complete the game by mid-1992. Sweeney giving a presentation at the 2016 Game Developers Conferenceįollowing ZZT, Sweeney started working on his next title, Jill of the Jungle, but found that he lacked the skills to complete this alone. Recognizing he needed a better name for a video game company, he renamed Potomac Computer Systems to Epic MegaGames. ZZT sold well enough, a few copies each day that came to about US$100 per day, that Sweeney decided to make developing games his career. He revitalized Potomac Computer Systems for selling ZZT, fulfilling mail orders with help of his father. To distribute the game, Sweeney looked to the shareware model, and wrote to Scott Miller of Apogee Software, Ltd., a leading shareware producer at the time, for ideas on how to distribute ZZT. He let college friends and those around his neighborhood provide feedback, and was aware it was something he could sell to other computer users. This first required him to create a text editor based on the Pascal language to be able to program the game, which led to the idea of making a game out of the text editor itself. Later, Sweeney had the idea of creating games that could be sold, programming them at night or over weekends outside college work. Sweeney established a consulting business, Potomac Computer Systems, out of his parents' home to offer help with computers, but it never took off and he shelved the company. Around this time, his father, who worked for the Defense Mapping Agency, gave him an IBM Personal Computer/AT. Sweeney attended the University of Maryland starting around 1989, where he studied mechanical engineering, though he was still fascinated by computers. As a teenager, he made a good deal of money by offering to mow lawns of wealthy residents in the area for half the price of professional services. He also learned from his brothers concepts of entrepreneurship. Sweeney estimated that between the ages of 11 and 15, he spent over 10,000 hours teaching himself how to program using information on online bulletin boards, and completed several games, though never shared these with others. When his family got an Apple II, Sweeney began in earnest learning how to program on that, trying to make Adventure 2 in the spirit of the Atari 2600 game. Sweeney spent the week there, learning BASIC and establishing his interest in programming while he had had a Commodore 64 before, Sweeney was much more taken by how easy the IBM PC was to use. Īt the age of 11, Sweeney visited his older brother's new startup in California, where he had access to early IBM Personal Computers. Though the family got an Atari 2600, Sweeney was not as interested in the games for that, outside of Adventure, and later said he had not played many video games in his life and very few to completion. He became interested in arcade games when they began to become popular in the late 1970s, knowing that like the mechanics devices he took apart and repaired, there were those that had programmed the games in the machines. At a young age, he became interested in tinkering with mechanical and electrical devices, and stated he had taken apart a lawnmower as early as five or six, and later built his own go-kart. Sweeney was raised in Potomac, Maryland, the youngest of three brothers. Sweeney has purchased large amounts of land in North Carolina, making him one of the largest private landholders in the state. He is the founder and CEO of Epic Games, and the creator of the Unreal Engine, one of the most-used game development platforms. Next, you'll need to create a new Visual Studio Mac extension that is an SDK style project and references the NuGet MonoDevelop.Addins v0.4.4. Based on my many, many failed attempts at getting this to work, AddinMaker v1.4.2 is the one that works. Using Xamarin.Forms Inside Visual Studio Macįirst things first, you must have version 1.4.2 of the Addin Maker installed into Visual Studio Mac. So, read on to learn how to use Xamarin.Forms inside Visual Studio Mac to build rich user interfaces for your tooling.įull source code for this blog post can be found here. To prove that this technique is valid for production-ready tooling and is not just a toy, we'll be building an image asset browser you can use to visually explore images inside a solution: By using XAML to build MFractors UIs, I can use MFractor to build itself an awesome process of dogfooding to accelerate product development. With a Xamarin.Forms WPF backend available, user interfaces are reusable in both Visual Studio Mac and Visual Studio Windows. We can use data-binding to save a lot of "glue" code and can also make use of value converters, triggers and behaviours. This dramatically lowers the barrier to entry for developing Visual Studio Mac extensions. XAML is much, much easier to work with than XWT, Visual Studio Macs UI framework. Therefore, there are compelling reasons to use Xamarin.Forms to build Visual Studio Mac extensions: As a bootstrapped business, this time-cost makes it prohibitively expensive to develop tools that are UI-centric. They mentioned a phone but I'm using an iPad. So for me it can build, deploy and start from the mac but there is no debugging period. I did but it didn't start debugging - the popup message didn't go away until it "disconnected" like it did earlier connected to the mac ("The app has been terminated."). I ran debug, it built and deployed the app. I had to restart VS for it to see a locally connected iPad. This is all a remote debug from a device connected to a mac. After a minute or so it gives an error ("Debugger was unable to terminate one or more processes") but the app is still running. If I try to stop debugging before it automatically disconnects, VS hangs. it looks like the debugger is connected but it doesn't break on anything, and after a couple minutes the debugger disconnects with the app still running ("The app has been terminated.). I did a debug and deploy of my project (on an iPad, iOS 16.4.1 (a)) and it will build, deploy and start the app, even over an existing app. I just updated to VS 2022 17.6 on Windows and Xcode 14.3. So 432 Hz and 8 Hz are intrinsically linked in this way. This frequency of 8 Hz – which is at the top end of the Theta brainwave state – is the brainwave state that makes us feel relaxed but conscious and open to intuitive learning. So, when we tune an instrument to 432 Hz, we get a C note at 256 Hz, which, due to the sympathetic resonance of the note overtones, will produce another C at exactly 8 Hz. It is those awkward decimals he alluded to that make conventional music tuning (440 Hz) not sound as nice as music played at 432 Hz. Rather than tuning music at 440 Hz or other variations, he noted that by placing middle C at 256 Hz, you could create a system where each octave (or factor) of C lands on an even integer (whole number), instead of containing awkward decimals. In 1713, a French physicist named Joseph Sauveur came upon a new concept: Here's a fairly simplified explanation of how this came about, without too much math. Well, musically speaking, the two resonate with each other. So what's 432 Hz got to do with the Schumann Resonance of 7.83 – 8 Hz? This frequency range is referred to as the Earth’s heartbeat, or vibration. The Earth used to resonate at a steady average of 7.83 Hz, but in recent years we've seen a shift more towards an average of 8 Hz. He determined that the frequency of these electromagnetic waves is very low, ranging from 7.83 Hz to 8 Hz. He understood that global electromagnetic resonances exist within the cavity between the Earth’s surface and the inner edge of the ionosphere. This will ultimately explain the number’s importance.Ī German physicist, Winfried Otto Schumann, documented the Schumann Resonance in 1952. To understand the popularity behind 432 Hz, we need to first learn about the Schumann Resonance. The Schumann Resonance – The Earth's Heartbeat This simple theory will help you understand why 432 Hz is said to make for a better listening experience. The way we feel, and the way the brain responds when we listen, depends on the combination of sound frequencies in the composition. And Hertz (Hz) is the measurement we use. Sound is what is heard when sound waves (vibrations) pass through the ear. I mean, what is music made of?Īll sound is made by vibrations. What most people don’t know is how it does this. Science shows us that it affects internal functions like blood pressure and heart rate, can reduce anxiety, and even help with digestion and pain relief ( 1). Music affects more than your psyche, too. People create playlists for when they’re downhearted, happy, and almost every emotion in-between. In this post, we'll explore how this alternative tuning is related to our planet, how it almost became the standard pitch many years ago, why it's popular for healing, and the conspiracy theories behind its oppression.Ĭertain songs bring us to tears while others get us exhilarated and inspired for a once dreaded workout. What is it about music made in the frequency of 432 Hz that makes us feel so relaxed? Why is it that country music makes some want to throw the CD out of the nearest window? What is it about electronic music that makes it impossible for some to stand still? As soon as the creature leaves, Malorie does so. Rick told Malorie the motion-activated recording would alert Malorie to temporarily open her eyes and make sure the boat goes in the right direction where the river splits. At the same time, Malorie and the children hear a recording of Tom’s voice, a message he once left on Rick’s answering machine. It appears to be about the first spread of well, I wont go into too much detail. The creature nearly removes Malorie’s blindfold, but she manages to keep it in place. Netflix has just dropped a trailer for a prequel/spin-off to its hit movie Bird Box, titled Bird Box Barcelona. Malorie assumes it is a creature when the birds around them become agitated, then attack one another. Just as the homes are the boxes that the humans are forced to stay and are able see within, and the humans along the way are liberated within the dark spaces with their emotions. The story follows a woman’s struggle to protect two children in a world where people are driven to violence by unseen monsters, touching on such themes as paranoia, raising children to deal with an uncertain future, and the dangers of exceptionalism. In the painting, the dark room is representative of the box, and the people within it are representative of the birds. Bird Box is a 2014 post-apocalyptic horror novel by Josh Malerman. Directed by Susanne Bier and based on Josh Malerman's 2014 novel of the same name, 'Bird Box' is filtered largely through Malorie's (played by Bullock) experiences. That painting is the base meaning of the film. Sandra Bullock's performance has been praised. Further along, they hear something following them. The movie is adapted from Josh Malerman's 2014 novel of the same name and is all about the psychological horror of the unseen. Bird Box received mixed reviews overall, but the restraint the filmmakers showed in keeping the creatures entirely offscreen was the best possible choice. 'Bird Box Barcelona' on Netflix is an extension of the 2018 Sandra Bullock film 'Bird Box.' All about the movie's ending, cliffhanger, and monster. Bird Boxs monsters are offscreen for the entire movie because looking at them induces death. Further downstream, the boat gets stuck near the shore, and a wolf injures Malorie’s arm. Netflixs 2018 success story Bird Box took this argument to a logical extreme. There, the world succumbs to disaster a bit more slowly. Before long, they pass a man who tries to get them to take off their blindfolds. The nature of the monsters and the madness they cause is better explained in the novel Bird Box by John Malerman. She leads the children to a rowboat, and they set off downstream. The glow of the candles alerts the seers of their presence, and they become victims of. Anna appears, praising Sebastián for “saving” those people and exclaiming that he can soon join her in heaven. The second timeline begins a few years later when Malorie decides to follow Rick’s instructions. What is Bird Box about Bird Box is a Netflix movie that follows one family's desperate fight for survival in a world taken over by a sinister entity driving anyone who sees it to suicide. The group lets him in, but in the middle of the night, he hijacks a bus they’re all sleeping in and drives it outside, making them look at the lethal entities. Sebastián is revealed to be a Seer after he convinced a group of survivors living in an abandoned bus station that he had access to a generator. While Anna is suspected to be alive at first, it’s later revealed that she is a figment of Sebastián’s imagination and died months earlier, after she was forced to look at the monster by a priest named Padre Esteban. Bird Box releases on Netflix on Friday, Dec. However, some people don’t die - rather, they regard the deadly creatures as angels and force others to look at them in order to “save” their souls. We follow Sebastián and his daughter, Anna, as they navigate the decimated streets of Barcelona - but we soon discover that Sebastián isn’t the good guy we initially believed him to be. Bird Box Barcelona, a spinoff of the 2018 film, dropped on Netflix on July 14 and while the post-apocalyptic thriller takes place more or less around the same time as the original, we’re introduced to a new cast of survivors in a new city.
